Writing in Christmas

Interestingly this thought has crossed my mind before.
How do you go about writing in Christmas in your current manuscript/book? And if I do, do I alienate certain readers? What I mean is, what about those that celebrate other holidays - Hanukkah, Ramadan or simply not at all.
Doubtful actually. Here is my theory. I [...]

How Did I Do That?

Praise God. No really. Without Him, I am certain I would not have accomplished this:

I seriously cannot believe I wrote that much in one month. I mean obviously I typically write much more in a month, but not all on one book. That’s all I mean. I could have written more had I not have [...]

Figuring Out Words Counts and Number of Pages

This seems to be a question I see asked frequently, and every so often when someone figures out that I write, they ask me directly.
I have done extensive research on many different genre’s to figure out the average word count that a novel that fits in that genre should have. This is not what we [...]

And The Novel Rolls…

I had to almost laugh when I read that post below. I was so excited to be at 21,000 and guess what. I’m almost at 33,000 at this point. My novel just keeps rolling on and I love it!
I’m ahead of where I need to be. Technically I am on the Nov. 20th word count, [...]

Am I a Writer or an Author?

This is one of those questions that while it has a right answer, it isn’t wrong in this day and age to say either. Let’s discuss the difference.
A Writer - A Writer is exactly that. Someone who writes. In fact, they probably write every single day, and if they don’t, they go nearly crazy wishing [...]

My Eyes, My Eyes….er…My Fingers?

Yesterday I wrote a whopping 6871 words in about two to three hours. I am now up to 13,081 and am so happy I’ve made it this far. Today’s goal is actually 15,000 which means I have to write about 1,919 words. I guess there is no question I can do it.
I don’t think with [...]

Writer’s Must Check Out These Sites

If you are truly an aspiring novelist/author, these are a couple of websites you must check out. This list will grow as I locate more, but for now this will get you started.
National Novel Writing Month - NaNoWriMo (did you totally know I’d put this!)
National Novel Writing Month is a fun, seat-of-your-pants annual approach to [...]

Writing Tip #7 - Take A Break and Find the Flow

Everyone is faced with writer’s block. It is inevitable, especially when you are writing something huge like a novel. Take a break once in awhile.
Sometimes practicing a writing exercise, or just free writing for a couple of minutes can get you back in the mode to write what you are supposed to be working on. Take a walk, [...]

Stop.The.Insanity.

This is crazy. So I am five days into my novel, which is supposed to be Chick Lit, when I decided, although the whole Chick Lit thing is fun to write, I am definitely a mainstream fiction kinda gal.
So, my genre has changed. And the words have begun to flow again. Oh, but the good [...]

It’s Back to the Grind

It’s back to the writing/typing mill today. The story got pushed to the back burner a bit this weekend, because I got caught up at a certain part. I wanted to ask a friend what she would do in a certain situation, and she was out of town until yesterday. I asked, she gave me [...]
